Mr. Harris represents and advises clients in a variety of general litigation, transportation, maritime, and corporate matters. In his litigation practice, Mr. Harris frequently represents clients and insurers in maritime and transportation cases and construction disputes. He also represents select clients facing state or federal criminal charges. In addition, Mr. Harris has extensive experience providing counsel to clients on corporate and risk management issues.

Mr. Harris returns to the firm after serving as General Counsel, Director of Legal and Corporate Secretary at Ardent Worldwide Limited, an international marine salvage, wreck removal, decommissioning, and underwater services company headquartered in Houston. At Ardent, Mr. Harris assisted in the implementation of a merger between Crowley’s Titan Salvage and Maersk’s Svitzer Salvage. As an advisor to the Board of Directors and management on legal affairs, he oversaw an international legal and risk management team, provided extensive contract reviews, and designed a robust regulatory compliance program. Business dealings have taken him around the world to international commercial destinations such as Indonesia, Singapore, Brazil, Denmark, England, and the Netherlands.

Before going in-house, Mr. Harris began practicing law with the Firm in 2001 and subsequently became a non-equity partner. He later co-founded Welch and Harris, LLP in Jacksonville, North Carolina. For 14 years prior to going in-house, Mr. Harris practiced maritime and admiralty law, general litigation, federal criminal defense and advised on for corporate, employment, construction, and contract affairs. He has also served as Adjunct Faculty at Campbell’s Law School teaching the Admiralty Law and Ocean & Coastal Law courses for many years.
